Bangkok is always a chaotic place, but the tumult has reached new levels recently. The two largest hostels for travelers have a long-standing feud, and the rivalry has been getting out of hand as of late... On one side, you have Bang Bang Hostel, managed by the cunning Trinity Ajax and the Foedus twins of Rome. Always bumping, rough around the edges, and typically just a little bit sketchy, Bang Bang’s atmosphere attracts hearty travelers looking for a budget option. It doesn’t hurt that in the back room they operate Bangkok’s most highly sought-after “massage” parlor, where many tourists have found a happy ending. On the other hand, right next door, there’s Lotus Garden Inn, operated by James John “JJ” Jiggler and his husband Timmy Binga, a classy joint that prides itself on cleanliness and reliability, if not necessarily the highest level of luxury. In their backroom operates Bangkok’s most vibrant and fast-paced cockfighting (roosters) ring.

Lately, rumors have been flying around that Hostel Investors International are sending three undercover representatives to Bangkok to inspect a possible investment in one of these hostels. This money could give the receiving hostel enough power to buy and absorb their competitor, spelling the end for one of these legendary Bangkok establishments.

These rumors have kicked the rivalry into high gear over the last week. Mishaps abound, with suspicions and accusations arising in equal measure. A late night fire alarm was pulled in the Lotus Garden, and a massive horde of cockroaches was loosed in their first floor beds. Yuck! In Bang Bang, the pool chemical balance was tampered with, resulting in a few guests receiving chemical burns. The next night, many guests were taken with sudden severe gastric distress– had the lemonade gone wrong, or did someone slip laxatives into the drink supply? Unperturbed throughout all of this tumult has been the Thai Turbo organization, Bangkok’s largest nitrous (laughing gas/whippets) supplier, operated by Sarah Pantera.

The string of dubious calamities took a tragic turn last night, when Denny O’Mann, Assistant Manager of the Lotus Garden Inn was found dead in the Inn’s key-card locked staff office with a bullet hole in the back of his head. Denny was a proud father, husband, and Irishman, as well as being the unrelentingly strict backbone of the Lotus Garden Inn.

Tonight is (sorry, was) Denny’s favorite night of the year: The Cock Brawl. Usually, the cock fights in the back room of the Lotus Garden are one-on-one, with two of the four resident rooster trainers putting in their fighter. Tonight, on Halloween, all four of them enter the fray, with one winner emerging victorious. Needless to say, a lot of money is exchanged in bets, and it is usually the Lotus Garden’s most lucrative night of the year. The Lotus Garden just stopped selling nitrous at their bar, but JJ still hopes to make a killing tonight. Trinity usually bans all employees of Bang Bang from attending the fight, as to not support a competitor, but even she goes to the Brawl. That means that tonight, all of the main characters of Bangkok’s hostel scene are in attendance, as well as all the guests recently victimized by the sabotages. With just a few hours before the brawl and everyone in one room, what simmering tensions will come to a boil? What questions will be answered? What new mysteries will come to light? And most importantly, WHO KILLED DENNY O’MANN?

Incredible Night of Fun and Mystery

One of the best parties I have ever been to was One Night in Bangkok. I had a great time acting in my role (which was actually conducive to socializing and enjoying the party itself), and I think other people felt the same way. The progression of the night was really exciting, and the payoff was great. The writing and design were very elaborate and I was impressed at how much thought went into this.
